How can I use the postposition either へ or に for the place?

Actually you can use either one. Although there is slightly different nuance between へ and に.

Let’s take a look an example:

あした　大阪から　東京へ　いきます。途中、名古屋の山本屋に行って、　味噌煮込みうどんを 食べます。

I am going to Tokyo from Osaka tomorrow, in the middle on the way, I will go to Yamamoto-ya in Nagoya and eat MisoNikomi Udon.

In above sentence, we would use へ or に for the place. When using へ like ‘東京へ’ is a kinda more far and final destination you are going to. But in the middle on the way, you can stop by also the ‘山本屋’, and ‘に’ is used in this context. Comparing above places, the place using ‘に ‘ is more specific place to go.

One more example;

休憩しようと　喫茶店へ　向かっていた。でも　会社から電話があったので、オフィスに　もどることにした。

I was going to the coffee shop to take a rest, but I got a phone call from the office, and decided to go back.

Overall ‘に’ is used for more intimate objects and more sticky from the action standpoint.

e.g.;

かべに　ポスターを　はります。

あなたに　会いたいです。

服に　シミが　つきました。

顔に　ごはんつぶが　ついていますよ。

Thus, postposition へ is used for more far destination and に is used for more certain place!
